Yes, depending on the non-violent crime. Prisons should focus on rehabilitation and education of prisoners in order to integrate them back into society. They also protect the public by keeping violent criminals off the streets. High end criminals, such as corrupt politicians and corporate leaders who defraud populations should receive much harsher punishments.
