On Tuesday, a coalition including the UK, France, Canada, Australia, Norway, and New Zealand launched coordinated sanctions against networks financing and enabling Israeli settler violence in the West Bank.
These measures target organizations and individuals accused of facilitating the forcible displacement of Palestinians and undermining a potential two-state solution. As part of this diplomatic push, France specifically banned Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich from entry, citing his calls for the annexation of the West Bank and the "re-colonization" of Gaza. The UK government also issued updated guidance warning British businesses to avoid financial or economic activities in illegal settlements.
While Israel's foreign ministry has condemned the steps as "disgraceful," European diplomats indicated that additional sanctions remain on the table if settler attacks continue.
