Over the weekend, Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, dismissed a recent alleged plot to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s government as foolhardy and amateurish.
The minister emphasized that the conspirators lacked any significant support within the military or among the general public. Musa went as far as to assert that the Nigerian people are so committed to democracy that even civilians would have intervened to stop the plotters themselves. This strong rhetoric comes as the administration seeks to project stability amidst a wave of military takeovers in the neighboring West African region.
Authorities are expected to continue legal proceedings against the suspects while reinforcing military loyalty to the constitutional government.
