On Saturday morning, an overloaded truck carrying Afghan families returning from Pakistan overturned on a major highway in Laghman province.
Local officials confirmed that at least 18 people died in the crash, including 10 children and five women. The vehicle was reportedly packed with passengers and their household belongings, making it highly unstable on the steep roads between Kabul and Jalalabad. These families are part of a massive wave of hundreds of thousands of Afghans leaving Pakistan following a government crackdown on undocumented foreigners.
Taliban authorities have launched an investigation into the cause, while survivors are being treated at regional hospitals in Nangarhar.
