Ukraine’s government announced on Monday that it has identified nearly 3,000 African nationals from 36 countries fighting for Russia in the ongoing war.
Officials claim these individuals are part of a massive global recruitment ring involving over 28,000 foreign mercenaries lured by high salaries and promises of Russian citizenship. Many fighters, including those from Yemen and Kenya, report being tricked into combat after believing they were signing up for security or construction jobs. In response, Kyiv launched a public database called "Stop Russian Recruiter" to document and expose the middlemen and agencies facilitating these contracts.
Ukraine is now pushing the European Union to impose sanctions on these international recruitment networks to cut off the Kremlin’s supply of foreign manpower.
