On Tuesday, the Trump administration proposed a sweeping new rule requiring millions of federal employees to sign non-disclosure agreements (NDAs). The Office of Personnel Management drafted the mandate to stop "unauthorized disclosures" of confidential government information to journalists and the public.
While high-security agencies like the Pentagon already use NDAs, this proposal would standardize their use across all civilian agencies for the first time. Critics argue the move functions as a "loyalty test" and could illegally intimidate whistleblowers who report government corruption or waste.
The administration is now seeking public feedback on the draft rule before moving toward final implementation.
