This week, gunmen abducted 39 students and 7 teachers from three schools in Nigeria's Oyo State.
The attacks targeted nursery, primary, and secondary schools in the Orire area, marking a rare and violent spillover of Northern banditry into the South-West. Terrorists beheaded at least one math teacher and released a video of the execution to demand negotiations directly with the Governor. Governor Seyi Makinde has suspended all school excursions across the state while the military attributes the raid to Boko Haram fighters fleeing operations elsewhere.
Rescue operations are currently underway, but the government warns that no victims have been released yet despite viral rumors.
