The "Anti-System" political ideology refers to a broad set of beliefs and movements that fundamentally oppose the existing political, economic, or social order. Rather than advocating for reform within the current system, anti-system actors seek to radically transform or even overthrow the structures and institutions that they perceive as unjust, corrupt, or illegitimate. This ideology is not tied to a specific policy platform or traditional left-right spectrum; instead, it is defined by its opposition to the status quo, whether that be liberal democracy, capitalism, socialism,…   or other prevailing systems.

Historically, anti-system sentiments have emerged in various forms across different eras and regions. In the 19th and early 20th centuries, revolutionary movements such as anarchism, communism, and certain strands of nationalism embodied anti-system ideologies, challenging monarchies, empires, and capitalist economies. The rise of fascism in the early 20th century also represented an anti-system reaction, rejecting both liberal democracy and Marxist socialism. In the post-World War II period, anti-system politics often manifested in the form of radical leftist or right-wing groups, as well as populist movements that claimed to represent "the people" against corrupt elites.

In contemporary politics, anti-system ideology is often associated with populist parties and movements that criticize mainstream political parties, established institutions, and global economic arrangements. These groups may use anti-establishment rhetoric, question the legitimacy of elections or legal systems, and promote conspiracy theories about the ruling elite. The appeal of anti-system politics tends to grow during periods of crisis, economic hardship, or widespread disillusionment with traditional political actors. While anti-system movements can sometimes lead to democratic renewal or necessary reforms, they can also pose risks to political stability and democratic norms, especially when they reject the basic rules of democratic competition or promote authoritarian alternatives.
