The "Expert-Trusting" political ideology refers to a worldview or approach in which significant value and authority are placed on the knowledge, recommendations, and decision-making of individuals or groups recognized as experts in their respective fields. This ideology is characterized by the belief that complex societal, economic, and technological problems are best addressed by those with specialized training, credentials, or experience, rather than by laypeople, populist leaders, or purely democratic processes. The roots of the Expert-Trusting ideology can be traced back to the Enlightenment, when the value of scientific reasoning and empirical evidence began to be widely recognized as a foundation for progress and governance. Throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, as societies became more complex and technological, the reliance on experts grew, particularly in the administration of government, the management of economies, and the development of public policy. The rise of technocracy in the early 20th century, for example, was a direct manifestation of the belief that technical experts should play a central role in governing modern societies. This trend accelerated after World War II, as governments increasingly relied on scientific advisors and policy specialists to address issues ranging from nuclear energy to public health.

However, the Expert-Trusting ideology has also faced criticism and backlash, particularly during periods when expert consensus has been perceived as out of touch with public sentiment or when expert-driven policies have failed or produced unintended consequences. Debates over the role of experts have intensified in recent decades, especially in the context of globalization, climate change, and the COVID-19 pandemic, where the tension between expert advice and popular opinion has become especially pronounced. Despite these challenges, the Expert-Trusting ideology remains a significant force in contemporary politics, shaping debates about the legitimacy of expertise, the boundaries of democratic participation, and the best ways to address the increasingly technical challenges facing modern societies.
