The "Needs-Based" political ideology centers on the principle that the primary purpose of society and government should be to ensure that every individual's basic needs are met. This approach emphasizes the right to adequate food, shelter, healthcare, education, and social security, viewing these not as privileges but as fundamental human entitlements. Historically, the roots of Needs-Based thinking can be traced to various philosophical and religious traditions that stress compassion, communal responsibility, and the moral imperative to care for the vulnerable. In the modern era, the ideology gained traction through socialist, social democratic, and welfare state movements, particularly in the wake of industrialization and the resulting social inequalities. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted by the United Nations in 1948, reflects Needs-Based principles by affirming rights to health, education, and an adequate standard of living. Over time, Needs-Based ideology has influenced the development of welfare policies, universal healthcare systems, and poverty alleviation programs in many countries, and continues to inform debates about social justice, economic rights, and the role of government in addressing human needs.
